Portrait
Of Poverty Rating: 9/10
|
I got an opportunity to go see these
Washington punks jam at the local hangout Club
Mesa. See the show review here!
Now this wasn't the first time I have seen them but P.O.P. is one of the
bands that keep me coming back to see them again. Keeping the old school
sound and singing about real life issues, P.O.P. isnt just another band to
add to your cd collection, they are a band that you'll tell all your
friends about while sharing a joint and listening to the "Smokin
Resin" track on this cd! It's no wonder Joey from D.O.A. signed these
boys to his Sudden Death label. See for yourself and visit www.suddendeath.com
to find out more about P.O.P.!

Ensign Rating: 8/10
|
Nitro Records has done it again with yet
another face slamm'n band. This time it's New Jersey's very own Ensign.
This new EP release is just as hard and moving as their earlier Nitro
release "Cast The First Stone". What can you expect on this
release? Well, I think it shows the band hitting their stride brutally,
with hard rhythms, growling vocals, heavy guitars, pounding bass, drums
and catchy, sing-along lyrics that hold the characteristics for Ensign's
brand of music. My only bitch is that it only has 4 songs on it. Come on
man give us more to enjoy! But I guess that seems to be a trend with new
punk bands these days. - Frank Rizzo

SUK Rating: 7/10
|
SUK, replace the S with a P and add an N and
you get PUNK. That's exactly what this CD is. SUK is a three piece 80's
sounding punk band that just tears shit up. Fronting SUK is about six feet
of pure punk female that goes by the name Teri. When Teri is not making
cross country motor cycle runs she likes to write music with the boys.
From heroin addiction to skanky bitches that steal drumsets, Teri's in
your face vocals, along with Andy and SR's musical know how, tell
the story of the facts of living a true life of a punk. So if you, like
me, want more out of your lyric than crappy ass love songs and enjoy a
good slam pit, then check out SUK!

Southern
Discomfort Rating: 9/10 |
Gotta give it up to the LBC (Long
Beach, CA for those that don't know) for bands
Like Sublime, Long Beach Dub Allstars and Bargain Music. Without these
bands we wouldn't have any have any new grooven music to jam to while we
finish our last bowl of kind! Well now we have another great band to chill
to and they go by the name of Southern Discomfort. I got this demo cd from
the band at front man Dave Heft's birthday bash show a few months back. (Check
out our review of the show) This 6
song cd gives listeners a look at the life of fun and good times. From the
Reggae licks of "Stoned Love" to the surf sounds of "Surf
The LBC" these songs will keep you and your bong happy! Visit www.dirtyqueenrecords.com
for more information!

Roadshow Rating: 10/10 |
Finally! A high quality live cd that brings
together some of the best hardcore and punk bands around and doesn't
sound like crap! I'm not a huge fan of live recordings because they often
sound blurred and distorted. But not this one! Nothing but professional
recordings! This comp has 28 mind slamming songs by 15 different
bands. Zeke, Weaksauce, Portrait of Poverty, Seaweed, Wretch Like Me,
Barfeeders and Milhous are just a few! These recordings were taken from
various shows that span from CA up to WA! So be the first on your block to
get this one by firing off an email to highgray@home.com
You won't be disappointed!

Slab Rating: 7/10 |
I was very impressed when I poped this disc in
my computer and jammed to the tunes. Slab is a solid pop/punk band based
in Upland CA and was formed way back in 1992. Produced by Brad Ziggen,
"Agony of Da Feet" is a well rounded cd that brings out all the
best elements of melodic punk. Roar'n melodies, hard drums and a bass
player that is all over the place! Hear for yourself at www.slabarmy.com.

Loogie Rating: 8/10 |
So do like good punkish rock fronted by strong
female vocals? Well friends might I suggest you check out Loogie. Straight
outta Fullerton CA, Loogie is a tight band that sends out a message of
truth. I'm not sure what the names of each song is called but I personally
like the second track of this 5 song demo. The lyrics tell about a
person's loss of a lover because they fucked them over and now they find
that there is only one true friend in life...alcohol! Man how true is that
message! Hard rock n roll is what Loogie is about and they stick to their
guns! I think you will be hearing more about them soon because they are
that good.

Peach Rating: 6/10 |
All right. For any tool fans, buy this cd. That's
right, Justin Chancellor, the bassist from tool, has another group. And it
is almost as good as a tool cd. The only thing it needs is Maynard's voice.
The down side to this CD is the singing. The singer is terrible. He sings
every song in the same monotonous way. Maybe I was expecting Maynard-esque
vocals. I don't know. If you're looking to buy a CD to tide you over
for Tool, this is adequate at best. If you're desperate to just buy a CD,
this is as good as any.

Poorhouse Rating 9/10 |
You just have to love this CD! Poorhouse if
one of the few melodic punk bands out there that have their own sound and
not a trendy rip off of Bad Religion or Pennywise. And talk about good
musicians! First of all Arthur and one mean voice, you know, the kind that
just tears through you. And then there is their drummer, Chris. All I can
say about him is that Josh
Freese had better start practicing because here comes Chris! And with
a strong bass and guitar from Jess and Brian, Poorhouse plain rocks the
house! And if you get a chance you should really check them out live. I
thought the CD was awesome but seeing them live is even better! I'm not
sure where you can get this CD because I got it at one of their shows but
you can find out how to get one at www.thepoorhouse.com.

Cause For
Alarm Rating 9/10
|
For those of you that are already in to the
hardcore scene then I need not explain to you who this band is. For those
that are new to the history of hardcore then let me tell you that along
with Agnostic Front and Bad Brains, Cause For Alarm were also a
torchbearer for the New York Hardcore, bringing the style to the
international masses. Although this is the final release from these
hardcore veterans, it is one of the best. The songs that are in this CD
are 17 years in the making. With 17 songs from the past and 4 previously
unreleased that include 2 live tracks, makes this a must for any Cause For
Alarm fan. In the annals of punk and hardcore music, Cause For Alarm will
be remembered as one of its most prophetic, revolutionary and integral
contributors. So go to www.victoryrecords.com
, order this disc and start a one man pit in your parents living
room.

Lucid
Nation Rating: 0/10
|
Ok, when I get CD's like this Lucid Nation one, it's really hard to review them. See they really aren't my type of music and I can't say the band sucks just because it isn't really the type of music I listen to, can I? YOU FUCK'N BET I CAN!!! These guys suck. If you are in to that screechy Courtney Love shit then you will love Lucid Nation. Long, drawn out slow, and boring. I read somewhere they actually opened for Bikini Kill and I'm willing to bet they got their asses booed off stage. Look I'm not try'n to be an asshole here, I'm just letting all you out there what I personally think, and Lucid Nation, well I personally think they suck. - Frank Rizzo

Self Rating: 8/10
|
So who or what is Self? Are they punk? No. Are they Metal? No. Are they an odd band from Murfreesboro TN. that recorded this CD using only toy instruments? Well, yes they are! Yup that's right! Using only instruments made for kids, Self managed to create a whole CD that covers a whole range of music from the hip hop/noise pop of "Chameleon, to the Spacey 50's doo-wop of "I Love to Love Your Love" hell, they even threw in some punk licks in "9-Lives". And you know what? I kinda like it! Their psychedelic toy sounds sort of remind me of a very strange and demented Weezer. So if your looking for a new sounding band, I suggest you try out Self! - Frank Rizzo

GOD Rating: 8/10
|
I have never heard of this band until now. Wow, I
really don't know what to say about these guys. Let me start by asking you
the readers this.... Do you eat a ton of Shrooms only to wash it down a
dozen or so sugar cubes soaked in liquid acid on a daily basis? If the
answer is yes, well then maybe you will like this band. I think these guys
are a bit strange and weird. My description God is this: The Beatles
on the bad brown acid you heard about at the first Woodstock in 1969.

Undeclinable
Ambuscade Rating: 9/10 |
Man I love this CD! These Den Bosch (NL)
ass kickers bring new meaning to the words "Melodic Punk"!
Although I do have to admit that Jasper's voice is very similar to Greg's
from Bad Religion, shit, it's almost identical. Maybe that's why I like them
so much because I'm a huge BR fan. But anyway, if you take Bad
Religion and Lagwagon, give them all huge quantities viagra and shove them
in the same locked jail cell......wait this is getting sick, ok lets say
Bad Religion was a chick and Lagwagon was a guy and they had a kid, then
that kid's name would be Undeclinable Ambuscade! So check them out by clicking
here!

Trag Rating: 0.5/10 |
Here goes, this is my honest opinion.
This CD sucks. I don’t even want to waste too much of my time on this
review. I have never heard their music before, and therefore have nothing
to compare it to. However, if this CD reflects their every day sound, they
just plain suck. I think they may have been literally "building
machines" while someone was holding a tape recorder. I don’t know
where this CD came from, but I’m sending it back. But hey, by all means,
decide for yourself. You can listen to one of their tracks at www.members.tripod.com/-TRAG_3
if your brave enough.

Factory
81 Rating: 8.5/10 |
If you like "Hard", you’ll like
this debut CD from Factory 81. This full length CD gives you some serious
music. Plus, a video of a live show, giving us the first glimpse of Nate
Wallace (Vocals) Bill Schultz (Guitar), Kevin Lewis (Bass) and Andrew
Cyrulnik (Amazing - Drummer). This 4 member band voices their ideas and
controversial realities through hypnotic verses. "Peace
Officer", appearing twice on the CD (a bonus "black & blue
mix" at the end). "PO" tells a common tale of power
tripping assholes, that I’m sure we all can relate to. Many of their
songs stirred up emotions in me. The music is a good mix, it’s more
melodic that it is "hyper hard core". Songs like
"Belligerence", and "Ephedrine" create manifestations
of chaos, in harmony. I could go on and on about this CD, I’ve listened
to it every day for the 2 months it’s been in my possession. When I need
some motivation, or I just want to piss someone off, I pop in Factory 81.

Backstreet
Boys Rating: -10000/10 |
Ok, one might ask why we are reviewing this
bullshit CD. I'm doing it as a public service announcement to help end
this rediculous moronic music trend! These assholes should be shot in the
head and force fed their own cocks for even thinking of sending us this
crap! If you listen to these gaysters then you should be destroyed in the
same way! The title of this shit is "Black & Blue" and I
find it an appropriate title because I would love grab my trusty baseball
bat and smash the shit out of these twerps until they are black and blue!
When is this type of so called music going to end? Well help do your part
in the war against queer bands....ooppps I mean boy bands and take a visit
to www.boybandssuck.com
today!!!! Tell them DeadOnTheWeb sent ya!

The
Weirdos Rating: 10/10
|
I have to agree
that the fact that the Weirdos were never considered one of the great rock
bands is both bewildering and disheartening. This album is a testament to
their greatness. Any punk, rock, or oxygen fan needs this. "We
Got the Neutron Bomb" is one of the best songs ever. My ears
recently stopped ringing from their St. Patricks Day '81 show at the
Starwood in LA. John Denney dressed like a leprechaun and Dix Denney was
Godzilla or something. If the world was just and "Happy People"
was the giant blockbuster hit that it deserved to be, the 80's would have
been completely different. I sometimes think that it is a shame that there
are few bands today that still have the ability to be as great as this
band. All I wonder is...volume one?
Don't tease me, could there be more? Well one can only pray because this
Vol. 1 was released almost a full decade ago. - Chris Tyler

Circle
Jerks Rating: 10/10
|
You may hesitate spending 15 or so bucks on a 20 minute album, but 20 minutes of 'Group Sex' beats 720 minutes of what passes for 'hardcore' these days. Keith Morris in his day was one of the best, most outrageous/underrated punk vocalists. The lyrics manage to accurately reflect the Southern California middle-class punk angst thing, and don't really sound dated to today's ears. And the music is punk at it's best, razor sharp riffs, and amazing drumming. This is classic Circle Jerks all the way. Every song is in your face and full of spit and broken glass. It is loud, angry and fast. It is also one of the first punk records I ever heard. Each and every song gets stuck in your head, making you pumped all day! If you like punk rock, you own this album already, you just don't know it yet. - Scott Harding

Jello
Biafra with D.O.A. Rating: 10/10 |
This is truly a
incredible good album. It can be compared only to the first Dead Kennedys
album or to the best recordings by D.O.A. I have rarely heard D.O.A. to
play with such a fury and heaviness and Jello is at his best. Only 6
songs? Who cares? Every one is a winner, especially the 11 minute
onslaught that is "Full Metal Jackoff." And not to mention the
classic cover of "We Gotta Get Outta Ths Place" The lyrics
are hilarious and they are to the point. If you want to get a good idea of
how the true left views things look to Jello. Never will "We gotta
get out of this place" mean the same thing as it did in the past.
What can be said......If I had to choose five albums to be buried with
this would be one of them. It is short, but it gets right to the point.
Jello's vocals with DOA's playing is pure magic! This is one of thoese
albums that should be played at full volume! The louder the better! - Scott Harding
