Mike Monster was interviewed in his living room (next to his coffin) On Saturday, June 17, 2000.

Dead- How long has the Spooky been together?
Monster- About six years. We got the idea of it in ‘94- Started jamming it  in ‘95 .The second wave generation of a true horror band... Looks like we’re doing it-I’m happy.
Dead- Describe your sound.
Monster- I would say most of it is early-style rock and roll and punk rock. The Ramones, The Clash or old 50’s rock and roll speeded up more. We got a lot of thrashy ,hard ‘80’s style songs-real violent. Major influences would be Cryptic Slaughter, early Misfits, Suicidal Tendencies-all that stuff.
Dead-  Give a brief discography.
Monster- We put a cassette out on our own in ‘95 called All Hallow’s Eve which is real hard to find. Then we put out the Ribcage 7” on Disaster Records. We also did a Compilation with Duane Peters (Disaster) called Old Skars and Upstarts with bands like Rancid, U.S Bombs and F-Minus . Then we did Dawn of the Dead with Hostage (Rick Bain) which sold pretty well and now we just put out a C.D. on our own called The Kindred Collector (All Hallow’s Eve Records) and that’s doing pretty good. I just went to a bar last night and they had it in their jukebox. Other than that we’re trying to get another full-length out on our own or Hostage can do it or whatever label grabs it. we want another label that helps out , otherwise we’ll do it on our own.
Dead-  Tell me about the Kindred Collector.
Monster- The Kindred Collector consists of (as you know) we’ve been having a lot of band change ups in the past. We’re basically  all still close and friends. That would be kindred- and I put a collage of old and new songs with different members that were on old stuff and we just put it together and called it The Kindred Collector from ‘96- ‘99. It’s basically a family-type thing that we wanted to put out.
Dead- How did The Sacred Grounds record release party go last week? That’s usually a hot spot for you guys.
Monster- San Pedro’s kids are probably our most dedicated fans. We get mail from them all the time. I  was hospitalized for two weeks with pneumonia and we had to  cancel the original show (record release) and they were really bummed about it. So we did a make-up show    (which was the other night) and we went and I guess it was too early to play -they didn’t get enough notice so we’ve been getting mail telling us that they’re bummed for missing us-so we’re gonna make up the show again on August 4th.
Dead- You got a new line-up correct ?
Monster- We got a new drummer who’s just fabulous! his name is Stain and we have a new bass player by the name of Jack Lantern. They’re filling the parts pretty good. We thought that we were going to have to call it there for a while until we could get new members, but I like playing too much and that’s what gets me off. Even though things get shaky sometimes, we still gotta do it. It’s punk-rock- who cares!
Dead- Yeah, those other two guys were dicks anyway! (joking)
Monster- (laughs) Those  other guys were dicks?
Dead- Any side projects going ?
Monster- I’m trying to do something with these two girls. More along the lines of a heavier -type trip. Samhain meets Dr. Know and more serious lyrics.
Dead- Favorite club to play and why.
Monster- It’s kinda hard to say because we’ve been banned from so many clubs because we’re such dicks, but I like the K. B. Club, that place is fun and has a good P.A. system. Like I said, it’s hard to say because we don’t  really get along with any of the booking agents because they cheat us. We want to get around to doing more all ages clubs to get to the kids. Actually, I want to start an all ages club myself . I wish I could. It’s really hard to do bars ‘cuz you get the older crowd and they’re really judgmental on things. I don’t know-I don’t have a top club.
Dead- Any particular bands you like to play with?
Monster- We’re not really liked too much amongst people because of our attitudes and we’ve had our confrontations with other bands. Actually the show we just did with Smogtown and The Smut Peddlers went really well and we kinda buried the hatchet with things. But I would say those bands from the other night are bands I like to play with...
Dead - What’s next for the Spooky?
Monster- Rick Bain from Hostage is doing a Compilation- a beach comp-we’re going into the studio next weekend to  do two songs for that called Frankenstein Conquers the World and Highway 39. It should be out in August.
Dead- Any last statement?
Monster- If you want to come see a real horror band, come check out the Spooky.
