I was running late but was able to get their at about the beginning of the show. The first band was playing , but I really wasn’t drawn in by what they were playing. And by the time of this writing, a few days later, most the performance was mostly lost to me. But they brought in a gaggle of girlie t-shirt wearing fans. Decked out in tight red T’s the Smooth Hounds fans did their best to fill in the dead space in front of the stage, but it was relatively early and the crowd was still sparse. After a few minutes of aimless wandering asking every cute pair of girls if they were looking for a guy named Scott from Deadontheweb.com. I finally found a pair that didn’t brush me of like a leper, so I grabbed the lucky pair started the lengthy process of getting back stage to find the band. While we walked and talked to a number of Galaxy brass, Something Corporate were starting their rather eclectic set. Being rather unconventional in respects to the fact that they lug a player piano to every show they do. Was somewhat curious, but wasn’t able to catch much of their set, so I can’t tell you much about them. But I was able to finally get the contest winners back stage and found Buck-O-Nine’s dressing room where Singer Jon, Tony the trumpet player and Jonas the guitarist were kicking it before the show. The band was really cool but that’s another story. CLICK HERE TO HEAR THE INTERVIEW! Up after Something corporate was the somewhat entertain Melting Pot. With a singer right out of a U2 video, and some quality musician ship Melting pot was able to make the time go by a little faster as they played a souped up rock and roll, to their crowd of working for the weekend fans. All in all they were a good band, but they lacked that something that would take them to the next level. But they did provide a little energy to the Galaxy stage. But most of the remaining crowd was here to see, San Diego’s hometown Punk/Ska’sters Buck-O-Nine. Now that the floor area was starting to fill in, and the beer were starting to take effect. Wildness erupted as the San Diego ska band started of their peppy set of tunes. I have always been impressed with Buck-O-Nine’s ability to stay on top when so many third wave ska bands have gone by the wayside. It is a true testament to their dedication to the band. Even though they all have day jobs and have to pick and choose when they can get together for a show. But I’m glad they did for tonight’s show, in “My Town” which they played later on that night. Buc-O-Nine singer Jon was bounding back and forth with the same boundless energy that the brass section added to tonight’s show. They played “Record Store”, “Barfly” and a ton of other great Buc-O-Nine songs, that got the crowd singing and dancing into the night. If you didn’t drag yourself out to the show tonight you missed out on a hell of a show. Snack Baggs
