The Palace in Hollywood, CA The day has finally come. I’ve been waiting a long time for Propagandhi to come back to LA. And for once I arrived early to the show. How early you ask. One hour early. So I needed to get my groove on. So I went down to the local liquor store and grabbed a couple of 40s. After finishing the 40s it was perfect time to go in and catch the first band Fabulous Disaster. This was the second time I had the chance to see Fabulous Disaster. But the first time I only saw a few songs so I was looking forward to seeing a full set. They put on a great show. Their vocal harmony was great. The lead singer’s voice was probably the best female punk singer I’ve ever heard. Usually it’s hard to get into a band that you don’t know any of their songs, but not in the case of Fabulous Disaster. Simply put they rocked. Sorry but we didn't get any pictures of them because I think our photographers camera was fucked up. Up
next was J Church. I’ve
never seen them before and I wish I never had.
Most of the songs sounded the same and never caught my interest.
I don’t know maybe it was because my buzz was wearing off.
So after about the 6th song I headed upstairs to the bar
and ordered myself a cold one. Then
I watched the rest of their set from upstairs.
Not much changed up there. Finally
they were off the stage. What
a relief. Now it was time for Avail. They started their set by blasting some great white trash country style music while Beau Beau sang along. I have to admit he sang country pretty well. But when the time was just right they kicked in in full force. Their energetic set made the kids erupt into a slamming frenzy. Maybe it was because the crowd had to sit through J Church and now it was time to set off all their aggression. Now this was Punk Rock. Avail has been around for quite some time and it amazes me on how well they are still doing. Every time I see them they keep getting better and better. Halfway through the set I was glad Beau Beau whipped out a super soaker and cool us off because the pit wore may ass out. Great set from a great band! Up last was Propagandhi. Everyone piled into the floor of The Palace waiting for Propagandhi to take the stage. As they began the crowd went nuts. One thing I usually hate about bands playing a show right after a release of a new album is that they just play the new songs. Not Propagandhi.
If you haven’t seen Propagandhi play live before I have one thing to say. What the fuck are you waiting for. They provide great music with out giving up what they believe in. Which is much more than I can say about most bands that claim to be punk. Besure to check back on DeadOnTheWeb in May to hear the Propagandhi interview they did!!! Yours
truly, |
