Narcoleptic Youth That night we headed out to Chain Reaction. We were excited because the bands on the bill were The Voids, Litmus Green, as well as Narcoleptic Youth. As usual we had a hard time entering the club. But once we were in, we were able to see that this place was packed! It was a full house for Chain Reaction. About an hour after the door opened the place was sold out. After listening to a couple opening bands The Voids hit the stage. This band is a four-piece group that has an old school sound that is similar to bands like Naked Aggression or Conflict. The crowd knows exactly what to expect from these guys. They have a girl for a lead singer who is a very talented front woman. They played about a half-hour set with the crowd on their side the whole time. They even played a Naked Aggression song entitled “Time Bomb.” They did a great cover of the song. By the end of their set they really got the crowd pumped up. Up next was a religious phenomenon called Litmus Green. Where do I begin? Litmus Green had an energy filled set with humorous, yet very serious lyrics. Their songs touch on such subjects as religion, the economy, politics, and abortion. They also sang about the welfare of the children in America while they cranked out “2.7 kids.” Rev. Sean, the lead singer, really knows how to get the crowd going. He uses quite a few stage props, such as an enormous knife, a stick of dynamite, and even a pistol. All of these have close relation to the lyrics within their songs. Throughout their set the pit was going strong. People often came up to the mic to sing a chorus here and there with Rev. Sean. Litmus Green was on their last tune of the night. This was no problem, because up next was Narcoleptic Youth. This is the band that most of the crowd had been waiting for. Narcoleptic Youth was on their way to the stage. The crowd was really anticipating this band’s performance. This group is a five piece. They shared the stage with the Subhumans about a year ago for their reunion tour. They began to play with such fury that, right before they hit their first note, people were already hitting and pushing in a circle. This was the first time that I had seen this group and immediately I liked them. They played song after song not giving the crowd a chance to take a break. Finally they stopped for a minute to tune up. They were going to attempt to play an Agent Orange classic. Well, lets just say that they didn’t quite know how to play it, but no one cared. In fact, everyone loved it, including me. It just sounded cool to hear it attempted. Narcoleptic Youth played for a good hour. Right after their last note people were cheering for more, but they knew that their time was up. I had the privilege of interviewing these guys backstage for a fairly long time. They were really cool guys, as well as good musicians. I also got to see a woman in leather harassing Rev. Sean as well. It was great. She would say, “Oh look, it’s Rev. Sean!” to her boyfriend as she ran up and gave him a big hug. She was screaming through their whole set, “I love you Sean!” The guys got a kick out of this. Overall, it was a great show and pretty much the whole night was a success.
