The
ADZ Happy Saturdays are made up four things: Beer, a cool bar, ass kick’n live music, and ….well more beer. So the Doll Hut is a great place to enjoy a Saturday of this sort because they offer all the above. So when I walked in I heard that the first band, CTW, was up tearing out some old school punk tunes. Then when I looked at them I was kinda shocked to see that they all seemed to be no older than 16 years old. They were very good for punks at their age. You could definitely tell that they were all about the early 80’s punk sound. Now usually when a band opens for another band they don’t cover that bands songs. Well at first I was think’n they broke the unwritten law when they cranked out a few tunes from the Adolescents just a few hours before the ADZ took the stage. But then Perry from Loogie told me that the front man of CTW was non other than the son of Frank Agnew. I should have known because he looked just like his dad and punked out like him as well! It was pretty cool also to see that Steve Soto and Frank Agnew showed their support for CTW by cheering them on. Frank even brought his wife and son. (Click Here). Anyway, these kids rock, check them out!! Thunderfist was the next band to take the spotlight. Cruizing down all the way from Utah, Thunderfist was ready to take on The Doll Hut. Hard rock / punkish vibes is what I got from them along with great lyrics about my favorite past time….beer drinking. One song in particular is about one of the finest beers around Pabst Blue Ribbon! And these guys were loud as fuck! Hey, is there any other way to play music? While the band cranked out the tunes, the singer took full advantage of the small area The Doll Hut gives the band to perform in. If he wasn’t standing on the bar he was rolling on the ground soaked in beer. If I was to say what bands probably influenced Thunderfist I would definitely say Zeke meets Motorhead with a twist of Black Flag. Im not sure how often they come down to So. Cal but I would definitely think about being there when they come again! So to kill the time in between, check out some of their mp3’s at http://artists.mp3s.com/info/119/thunderfist.html Next up was Loogie. Just to start off, if you haven’t seen Loogie yet then your missing out! Straight outta Fullerton CA, Loogie is a tight band that sends out a message of truth. Full power and gusto is how Loogie likes to force feed their audience raw rock / punk music. And with a singer like Leanne, it makes it all that easier to jam. Leanne has the vocal power of The Lunachicks and the melodies of Blondie. So take that and band of very talented musicians and you get the driving force called Loogie. I noticed that when Loogie started, all the people hanging out side in the patio section came in to check them out but what can you say, they seem to have the sound that gets people interested. And oyu could tell that there were a lot of people there to see them by the number of lips moving to the same frequency as Leanne’s. After a good 45 minutes of ear beeding rock it was time for Loogie to give the stage up to the ADZ. I was kinda shocked when I noticed that quite a few people left after their set. I figured that they were there to see The Adz. I was very happy to see the Adz again because it was a very long time since I have seen them. Unfortunately I had to leave half way through their set. But nonetheless the half that I did see was enough to keep me wanting to see them again. As always Tony and the guys laid out thick hard punk tunes. . They jammed out many of their classics and a few newer ones as well as a few Adolescent songs. So if you have been living under a rock for the years of your life and haven’t seen them yet, or if you’re an old Adolescents fan and need your punk fix, then make sure you check them out! |
