I didn’t have high expectations for this show because things weren’t starting of too well.. There were a  few other good bands that were going play along with the headliner the Hunns, and the Stitches. But both pulled out due to one thing or another. Then Compound this with a piss pour cold ass California rainstorm and the fact that I really just wanted to stay home in my nice warm little abode. Made it hard for me look forward to tonight’s show.  But I forced myself out into the cold dank night to get a look at Local fixture Duane Peter’s new band The Hunns, and their fellow Disaster Record label mate the ever infamous Stitches. If you want some good punk rock listening you have to tap into the local old school bands. It’s a second wave of true punk no bubble gum, and cheerleaders here. Bands Like the Bombs, The Stitches, The Spooky, Smogtown, Bone Crusher, The Bleeders, have made names for themselves in the local music scene.  Anything from Disaster and Hostage records is a safe bet for high-octane punk rock . And that’s what tonight record release show was all about , along with it being the first night of the Tickets to Heaven Tour.  So here it is.

The rain made me a little late to the show , so I missed all but the first song of the Livingston’s. So I really cant make any judgments, on how good or bad they are. So I unfortunately I wont be able to make any judgment at all. But I can say they were at least good musicians, and worthy of a look and some other time.

Up next was Title 51, a decent band with a singer that sounded right out of the WWF.  They really seem to have a decent following of fans, but never convinced the crowd to stray from their safe little tables. So I guess they were a little out of their element. Being that this was to be the Disaster Records type of night.

Up next was the raucous punk rock of The Stitches.  You never know what your gonna get with The Stitches. Tonight singer Mike L was, lets say… feeling no pain tonight. As he writhed and contorted during tonight’s performance. This finally coaxed the crowd out of their seats making it feel like a show, too bad the security are a little bit quick to break up any signs of a good time,  It had been a about a year since I had seen the Stitches, so I was curious to see if they been writing or playing.  To my delight they played a lot of the old favorites like Better of Dead and Nowhere. Guitarist Johnny Witmer has a great old school sound; with energy and flair he makes it look easy while tilting back beers and staying out of mic bashing distance of  singer Mike L.  If you haven’t seen the Stitches yet get out and see them, I can’t guarantee a good performance every night but they have their nights. So roll the dice and see what you come up with.

Being a long time Bombs fan, I’m a little bummed that Duane is starting up a side project That doesn’t sound good for the bombs but at least Duane’s keeping the music going like the true road pirate he is. The hunn’s is an appropriate name for this bunch of marauding band of punks, with  Duane Peters in charge of vocal duty as always. Rob Milucky and Mark Lee on guitar, Shane Haddok on bass, and Matt Spizer on drums. The Hunn's are punk like the bombs, but with a little more bluesy rock and roll in the mix. The show was for the CD release of Tickets to Heaven the new Hunn’s release on Duane’s label Disaster records, and most of the crowd was here to see them. So the pit area started to fill up with patrons, that have tipped a cocktail or three warming up from the rainy night, so the festivities were getting going. While the hunn's were blasting out some great punk rock like local favorite Nuke H.B. and Unity of their Unite debut. They played a lot of tunes off their new release Tickets to Heaven , so I was un familiar with a lot of the songs. But one thing is for sure, The Hunns have great full guitars and with Duane steering the wheel you never now where you can end up . So go out and see what all the hype is about, your sure to have a good time seeing some old school done right.
