It's
Friday the 13th in October, so what better way to spend it than checking
out some kick ass punk at the Troubadour! And what a better line up
than The Hunns, Damnation, Litmus Green, Narcoleptic Youth and F-Minus!
Now what sucked as usual was the god forsaken L.A. traffic. It took me
almost 2 fucking hours to get to the venue from Orange County! Then to
make matters worse, some corporate dipshit has the street all under
construction around the Troubadour so it made it nearly impossible to find
a good parking place....I found one 3 blocks away. When I made my way into
the Troubadour after my mile long hike through the concrete jungle, I
found that I had missed F-Minus. But I'm sure they kicked ass because I
have seen them about 5 times and they always do a good job. And since I'm
bitching I also have to add FUCK THE TROUBADOUR'S BAR! Come on guys $5.50
for a flat 10oz. beer is BULL SHIT! Ok, I'm feeling better....on with the
show!
So
now it was time for Narcoleptic Youth to take the stage. I haven't see
these guys live before but I have a few cd's of theirs and I can't get
enough of them. So the crowds sitt'n there waiting while Joey and the boys
got ready to jam, then like a bat outta hell Narcoleptic Youth started
tearing it up! And with out hesitation, the crowd stared a very impressive
pit! I couldn't help but join them. See the pic! So
if you haven't heard these punks before then let me give you a bit on what
I think they sound like. If you take the Adicts, TSOL, Dead Kennedys, and
the Subhumanz, mix in a six pack of your favorite beer, and toss it all on
vinyl.....you have Narcoleptic Youth. I have to say that even though I
have never seen them play before, Narcoleptic Youth is everything I
expected from what I heard form the albums I own. Real Punk, and that's
becoming harder and harder to find these days. So after about thirty five
punk driven minutes Narcoleptic Youth gave the stage up to Litmus Green!
Oh yeah, check out Narcoleptic Youth's site at www.narcolepticyouth.com
they have a full album's worth of full mp3's you can have for free!

Awww
yeah, Litmus Green! I love these guys. And as always they put on one hell
of a show. Along with their hard, slap my mohawk and call me punk rock
music, Litmus Green also brought out their props. From what I remember
there was a gun, some dynamite, a few knives and something that was just
wrong! Now that the Troubadour was packed with a shit load of people,
including Youth Brigade's front man Sean Stern, the feeling of a true punk
show had taken full effect. As Litmus broke sound barriers with loud
snotty guitar riffs and blood curdling bass runs, the more than responsive
group of fans showed their support with yet another impressive pit I just
had to partake in! Rev. Sean mesmerized the followers with his wit and
humor as he lead the band into a frenzy of choppy chords and strong beats.
And just as I couldnt get enough of their antics, a big fat ass attempted
a flying stage dive and crushed 2 poor teen chicks flat to the ground!
Damn it was great! Go out and see Litmus Green if you haven't yet and be
sure to check out www.litmusgreen.com
and deadontheweb's interview
with the band!!
Next
up? DAMNATION! The band I came to see! If you are the type of person that
likes to look at severed heads, skulls, dead things and enjoys long strolls
through the local cemetery at night, then Damnation is the band you need
to be listening to! These guys have to be the next best horror punk band
since the Misfits! And unlike most bands in this genre, they do it their
own style and don't rip off from the Misfits. Nope it's all Damnation and
it all shakes shit up! The stage was all done up Halloween style with
severed heads, skulls and jack o' lanterns. (See pic)
I think most of the people that showed up were there to see them because
when they took the stage the people went apeshit. So they kick it off and
front man Shaun starts throwing himself all about the venue, falling down,
getting up, and thrusting himself into the first few rows of fans. Then to
get them going even more, Shaun starts passing out all kinds of Halloween
shit like masks and props and then continued to kick out the dark jams.
After a goo 40 minute set Damnation brought it to an end. Check out
Damnation's official web site at www.damnation66613.com

And
now it was time to see Duane Peter's new project The Hunns. This was the
first time I have seen and heard The Hunns so I really didn't know what to
expect. First the band came out on the stage with out Duane and jammed out
a very tight instrumental tune. And just before this song came to an end,
out came Duane, tats and all! As they started their first song with vocals
right away I noticed that The Hunns had the same feel as Peter's U.S.
Bombs only a bit more rockish. As the band cranked out the music, Duane's
throaty vocals cut through like a hot knife in butter. And as he did
this, he also did his trade mark of singing out of 2 mics at once while
sprawling about on the stage floor. Although I can't really say that I was
extremely impressed with The Hunns, I can say they are very tight and if
you are a core Bombs fan or just dig their style of music you will dig
them. Check
out more of them here!
So
that was it. A very haunted night of great punk on Friday the 13th!
