For starters, there are good and bad points to all age venues.
This show
took place at Chain Reaction in Anaheim.
A mecca for kids. The
good part is
that kids of all ages can get in and see bands. Old, and up and coming,
and
they can spend their money on merchandise.
I was working the merch booth for
a while, and I saw a hell of a lot of money come through that place.
The bad
is though, since it is all ages, they don't sell alcohol.
Now, I'm not
saying I need booze to go to a show, but this particular show started at
4:30pm and I didn't get out of there until 11:00pm.
That's a long time not
to have the option to drink or not. But to get on with it, this show was
sponsored by the company Loud
Energy. It featured eight
bands, and the
entire show was video and audio taped for Loud Energy to produce a
compilation and distribute is across the country.
Pretty cool I know.

The first band up for the night was Motorsoule.
Featuring Ricki, the
infamous taxi car driver and vocalist.
These guys are tight. Several
of the
bands featured girls in them, with Motorsoule included.
Jen the bass player
can certainly hold her own in this male based band.
I thoroughly enjoyed
them. They are a brand of
high energy punk rock that just makes you want to
move. If you haven't seen
Motorsoule yet, check them out, they play quite
often.

Amazingly enough, this show wasn't running late, as a matter
of face, it
was running 20 minutes early. How's
that for amazing!!!
Next in line was The Spooky.
Orange County's own horror kids, who look as
if they marched straight out of a Misfits comic.
They now only have two
original members, but their new additions really make an impact on the
bands
over-all sound. They are a
bit harder and deeper sounding. I
used to think
of them as more poppy punk, but their sound have improved a hell of a lot.
Cheaper
Than Crack was up next. I
don't know anything about these guys,
except the singer is one hell of a nice guy, and that they are pretty
hardcore. They are a three
piece if I remember correctly, and a strong force
to be reckoned with. So if
you ever see their name, and are into hardcore
without the attitude, see this band.
Drain Bramaged was next in line.
These
guys are a great interactive live show.
Doug always strips down to his
skivvies, spitting is a must, and beer is a requirement.
They do a great
cover of "Devil Went Down To Georgia," and numerous songs about
beer
consumption. Drain Bramaged
has a huge fan base, and they were out in force
tonight. They have been in
tons of compilations, have two full length albums
out, and they let me know that they have a new one coming soon on Know
Records. Check
out our interview to learn more about them.
I'm sorry to say that the fifth band up, Star Strangled
Bastards I missed,
but I do remember that one guy had a mohawk.
Sorry guys, I will have to
check you out again.
Girl fronted band Loogie was up next. After hearing about them for quite
some time, this was my first time seeing them.
This band rocks, they had all
the kids going in the pit. Leanne's voice compliments the rest of the band
perfectly. They really
impressed me, they deserve to make it.
The next to last band of the night was another girl fronted
band Lisafer. Named after the
singer Lisa, they are a three piece punk formation with a
husband and wife up in front. I
give them all the credit in the world to be
able to do that! This band is
pulling from their old school punk rock roots
to create their own sound. Lisafer
also made T-shirts with all the bands on
it to help Loud Energy create more revenue to help the CD distribution. They
have been in and around the scene for quite some time, and really know
their
shit. They have some upcoming
shows where you can go see for yourself. Check
out their interview to hear more.
The last band of the night was Hey Stroker, all I know is
that the singer's
voice
hasn't fully developed, and a couple of songs into their set the
drummer broke his pedal. So
that was the end of my night. Until
next time...
