September 11th is going to be a tragic day that we will all remember for the rest of time as we know it. Fuck that Bin Lauden fag! I hope we kick his sorry ass back to the 7-11 he came from! Anyway, one of the amazing things to see from all this is how we as a nation can bond together and help out the friends and families of the people and heroes that lost their lives on that day. Benefits of all kinds were held across the USA including the Long Beach Records September 11th fund show at the Galaxy in Santa Anna on November 2, 2001.  And what better way to help get the US economy rolling by dumping a bunch of cash out at the bar, getting drunk and watching some very talented bands tear shit up!

It sucks because I was very late getting my lazy ass to the show so I missed Triple Word Score and I only caught the very end of Secret Hate’s set. What I did see of Secret Hate’s set was amazing. This was the first time I have ever seen them live and I was majorly pist off when I cruised in late and realized they were just about finished with their set. These guys have a strong performance and really have the nack for what they do. Breaking the rules of punk, they have a loud face slamming sound that is all their own! One thing I couldn’t help noticing about them is that they sound even better live than they do on their albums and that’s a good thing. I hate when you listen to a band on their latest CD and they rock but when you go to see them live they fuck you by sounding like shit live. But not these punks! They kick out the jams so loud it makes your ears bleed but since I’m already half deaf I came out with my ears still intact.

So after their set and a few brewskies later we were all patiently waiting for the next band to come on stage. Now being late I had no idea that they were also having a raffle for the night so it was at this time AJ from the infamous Das Klown came out on stage spitting in his typical rude loudness and announced the lucky winner. Im not sure what they won but I know it must have been pretty cool because the people sitting next to me were yelling fuck you to AJ because they had lost the raffle. Damned poor losers!  Now AJ had something else to say to the crowd but I couldn’t make it out because, well I was kind of drunk and couldn’t hear him, but I’m sure it was something intelligent about peace and harmony. Oh, by the way for those that don’t know who Das Klown is, go here www.skunk.com/DasKlow you just might get offended!

Now it was time for the long awaited reunion of non other than The Falling Idols. Now you might ask “Who the fuck are they?!” You know, they are the band that Sir Dave Quackenbush punked out in before he joined up with The Vandals. I was fucking stoked when I found out they were playing because being the dumbshit I am I really didn’t realize this till they came on stage.  These guys were great! Good old punk from the good old days! And I know I’m gonna piss off a lot of people when I say this but oh well, fuck em… I actually think they sounded much better than the Vandals, well their last few albums anyway.  It’s just too bad that this was the only night that they were ever going to get back together so if you missed this show then you missed ever seeing them play again! Ha you suck! But not me because I was there and man was it great! All the spunk Dave emits on stage with the Vandals was here as well. Raw fast and loud is how the band played as Dave jumped around the stage. They put me in such a good mood I felt the need to go to the bar and not only get a beer but I even dug deeper in to my wallet to buy one for my other friends Me, Myself and I! Awwww yes, getting the economy rolling again never felt so good. But enough about my alcoholic habits. Cheers to The Falling Idols for taking the stage once more and force feeding us a punk rock treat!

Long Beach Dub Allstars were up next. I have always been a fan of Sublime and LBDA, but unlike Sublime, I haven’t seen LBDA live yet. Yeah you could say I was pretty excited. When they came out on stage the crowd went nuts with hoots and hollers. And then they started their jam! LBDA smacked us all with a great mix of Sublime and LBDA joints, tightly rolled in the wraps of reggae, with nothing but a harmonic blend of vocals, horns, guitars beats and bass. Man was it awesome! From slam pits to bobbing around to dub-reggae kicks, the crowd took in all the flavor that LBDA was unleashing. They even busted out with some new licks from their new “Wonders of the World” cd. On a side note I have to say that this CD smoked their last one. Im not saying their last one was bad or anything because I really like it, but “Wonders of the World” has that certain something that I cant explain that makes an album go from great to fucking great!  I really don’t know what to say about their performance because I left me speechless. I kick my self because I haven’t seen them live before but you know that’s all going to change!

Thanks to all the bands and Long Beach Records for putting on this show to help the victims of 9-11!
