Reverend Horton Heat

          Once again we headed out to the Glass House for another ripp’n show. Friday night and the traffic was actually not bad at all so we arrived in time to get a great interview with Nashville Pussy, we will post that one soon, it went very well. This was the first show I have been to in a long time where there were only two bands performing and I have to say it made quite a difference. I liked it better because both bands got to play for a full hour. And the crowd was very diverse. Here you have two insane bands both with very different styles of playing. Reverend keeping the rockabilly grove alive and Nashville kicking out the hard rock rhythms from hell. So to the left of me I could see all the cute rockabilly chicks dressed to please and on the right I could see all the rockers sporting the long heavy hair. It was a pretty cool site. And there were  fans of all ages there to witness these bands shred it up!

          First up was the southern fried rock of non other than Nashville Pussy. Being a long time fan, I was stoked to finally get to see them hammer it out live. As they made their way out on stage I noticed the excitement in the crowd. I could tell that there were some folks there who have never heard this power band before and boy were they in for a treat. Then with no waste of time the chainsaw sound of Ruyter and Baline  tore in to the heard of all in the Glass House. After seeing the first few songs, I was in shock. They have so much force live it almost puts their albums to shame. I mean the drive of each band member colliding in to one punk charged, sexually fueled, in-your-face energy is the drive that picks you up and tosses you ass to the other side of the room! Both Ruyter and Blaine tear the guitar up like nobody’s business but Ruyter alone is a force to be reckoned with. Like a female version of Angus Young, Ruyter’s performance is simply wild! You can see that when she jams he mind and soul are in full throttle guitar shredding groove. All I have to say is that it is stimulating and sexy to watcher her work the magic. And with a bass and drum section brought to you by  Jeremy and Tracy, compliment the guitars and complete the Explosive, head-banging band known as Nashville Pussy. All in all they put on a set that will forever be etched in the minds of all that where there.

          Now it was time for Reverend Horton Heat to grace the stage and forgive us of all our sins! Opening the set with a hellish music intro, Horton and the boys gave out a feel of what was to be heard as the set played on. As the smooth character the Reverend is, Horton jammed on with a look on his face of confidence that oozed a laid back attitude to the hopping crowd. Jimbo joined and he slapped the shit out of his flaming upright bass.  It’s amazing to see how fast he can play that thing and not miss a note! If I didn’t know better  I would swear he invented the stand up bass technique. Halfway through the set the Reverend and Jimbo laid out their trade make where Horton stands on Jimbo’s bass as they both shake the house of rockabilly. And as for Scott, well the only thing he could do was kick ass as usual and tie the two together. The mix of songs they played was all over the place. Oldie and newbies were all present in the line up that satisfied the happy audience. There was a good feeling amongst the diverse crowd as everyone was singing and dancing along. Their set was also very long, just over an hour of songs. And as the smoke cleared and the Reverend finished their set it was save to say that the night was jam packed with some major talent and enough sinful songs to even make the devil himself cringe.
