Orange County, we have a problem!  Not only is there now a Skate Park in Irvine, but it's located at the video game nazi Headquarters--Palace Park.  Now, when I first heard from a Palace Park Representative that they were building a skate park in there "happiest Place in Irvine" facilities, I laughed my ass off.  What made this? Information so funny to me was the fact that a few years ago, when my punk rocker friends and I first visited the fine amusement park, we were kicked off the premises for skateboarding (As well as looking "Inappropriate"--collectively sporting Mohawks and leather jackets).  The Security guards were so bitter towards skaters that they even threatened to "beat us with their clubs!"  Now that skateboarding has hit the pseudo mainstream, I guess it's "appropriate" to allow skaters to fork over their life savings to roll around on some masonite at Palace Park. In early June the little-kid quarter monsters teamed up with Vans to build an all wood skate park, tightly squeezed between the McDonalds and the go-carts.  I could only ask myself one question, "How could they possibly make a good skate park at Palace Park?"  Well, unbeknownst to me, the people at Vans are skilled in the art of park making.  It's sick! There's a dope mini ramp with transition connecting one of the sides of this extremely wide ramp to the center of the park.  That tranny leads you to a huge funbox with a flatrail and two big ledges.  The perimeter of the park is lined with transition and there is also a small funbox to try out your new tricks.  It's big enough, fast enough, and uncrowded enough to have a good time skating without sketching over the cops.  But Don’t you dare take off your shirt...I guess that attire is still Inappropriate to the Nazis.  And full pads are required--knee pads, elbow pads and a helmet.  My advice is to skate during the night sessions, preferably 9-11 p.m.  At that time it'll be empty--just you, your buddies, and a couple other kids (as well as a couple of Hitler's associates watching close by).  The prices range from 8 to 11 dollars with a yearly pass and 11 to 14 dollars without.  But the pass itself is, a whopping 50 bucks!  Yeah, I guess it was too good to be true.  Well, just bite the bullet and mortgage the house...it's well worth it.  Hope to see you there.

Palace Park is located in Irvine at the corner of Michelson and Harvard--3405 Michelson Dr. Irvine, CA 92612
