In our newest installment of independent dining we will showcase a downtown Long Beach landmark, the MVP Grill & Patio. Don’t let the Grill and patio name fool ya, it’s not some posh country club setting or anything. Liberty spikes and leather jackets are allowed. And To be honest if your weren’t looking for it you’d probably pass it buy with out a second thought. It sort of hidden away on the side of the road on forth street in Long Beach. But once you’ve eaten there you’ll have more than enough reason’s to give it a second thought.

The first and foremost thing that strikes you about MVP burgers is you can’t get a “cheeseburger” you have to order a “George Foreman II.”  Infact everything has a famous athletes name attached to it. And everything is as great, as it’s namesake it’s named after.

The meals I recommend are  “The Vitale “ succulent ham and cheese sandwich. And the “Pat Day Melt” and anything you get you have to order some of their Cajun seasoned fries. The Cajun seasoning is sort of like the seasonings on dairy queen fries but with twice as much and the fries our twice as big.  For you more healthy types, you have to try the “Chick Hearn” sandwich. Its grilled chicken with Swiss cheese on whole wheat with a helping of MvP’s special Cajunise.  Or if something off the grill isn’t what you’re looking for, then try one of MvP’s special salads. My personal favorite is the “Kareem”, with it’s sliced turkey and ham with ample amounts of cheeses and your favorite dressing makes this a slam-dunk of a meal. My only complaint is, where’s the Magic Johnson triple double sandwich. Or the Kobe/Shaq Attack, maybe a double burger with double fries and a double drink for the Big man at heart. Oh well

So keep the independent food scene flourishing, stop feeding the corporate coffers of your local fast food whore! So what if it doesn’t have a tie in to the new Tom Scruise movie. What does a movie and your taste buds have to do with each other anyway?  Nothing! So go out and treat your self to a some burgers and fries from Long Beaches Most Valuable Player. MvP burgers. And tell’em deadontheweb.com sent we could use some free food!
